Showdown
The winner of the hand is the player who holds the highest hand according to universal poker hand rankings. Ace can also be used as the lowest card in a straight, i.e. A-7-8-9-10 (A-6-7-8-9 in case of the 6's being used). If the 10 high straight is suited with an ace as the lowest card, it qualifies as a straight flush. This also applies to the 9 high suited straight in case of the 6's being used.

Sure does I was quite baffled and then attempted to see if Aces were wild

I have probably had some decent hands and just folded them

lol

I did the same as you! I was about to fold then saw it said "straight" at the bottom

One of the problems of learning new games by just playing them without reading anything beforehand I suppose, but thats the method I'm sticking to!!

I probably should have read that statement more carefully. It only comes into play on 9 or 10 high straights

What are best methods when discarding cards? Say if you had AA88J would it be best to keep your two pair and go for the full house or would you get rid of 88J and try for 3 aces?

I was thinking the first option is ok with 3+ players still in and the later might be better for HU.
Example

100.00/200.00 Five Card Draw 7-A (PL) - 18 November 2008 13:45:24
Five Card Draw 7-A (Real /Tournament )
Seat 1: S6TAV (6500.00)
Seat 2: BluAngel11 (1000.00)
Seat 3: Unknown (0.00)
Seat 4: Unknown (0.00)
Seat 5: Unknown (0.00)
BluAngel11 post SB 100.00
S6TAV post BB 200.00
** Deal **
S6TAV [Ad, Qs, 10h, As, Qh]
BluAngel11 [N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A]
*** Bet Round 1 ***
BluAngel11 Raise to 400.00
S6TAV Raise to 800.00
BluAngel11 All-in 1000.00
S6TAV Call 1000.00
*** Exchange ***
Seat : 1 S6TAV [Ad, Qs, 8c, As, Qh]
Seat : 2 BluAngel11 [N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A]
S6TAV Exchanged cards: 1
BluAngel11 Exchanged cards: 2
*** Showdown *** : Rake: 0.00 Total Pot: 2000.00
S6TAV [As, Ad, Qs, Qh, 8c] Two pair aces and queens Win: 0.00
BluAngel11 [9s, 9h, 9d, Kc, Qd] Three of a kind, nines Win: 2000.00

Probably doesn't help that I am discarding first because when I see him only discard 2 I know he has 3 of a kind and Im beat. If I was to act last I might have got rid of QQ10 and gone for the 3rd ace?

Keep AAJ, discard the 88 or stand pat
